Doornbos gets the Japan seat in Zolder

14/07/2011 Robert Doornbos

Dutch driver Robert Doornbos will line up this weekend at the Superleague Formula Grand Prix of Zolder in the Japan car. The former F1, IndyCar and Champ Car driver, was a regular in the championship last season after and had previously finished third overall in 2008, the first season of Superleague Formula.

The Japan car is run by Atech Reid GP and was the winning car of Race 2 at the season opener in Assen in the hands of Duncan Tappy. Japan are currently joint championship leaders alongside the team Australia car of John Martin.

Doornbos is supported in his drive by ERU Prestige and the car will be fully branded alongside the Japan flag. “Zolder is a really good circuit, and also intersting. There are some very fast and also some technical sections which makes it really interesting in a Superleague Formula Car. These cars are really powerfull and you have to be very precise.”

“I'd like to thank ERU Prestige to make it possible for me to race in Zolder.  We had some problems at Assen with a coming together, which meant that unfortunately the car had too much damage to finish the race and we were unable to start in race 2.

“I think that we should have a nice crowd in Zolder and it would be great to win for the Dutch fans and for the Japan team and ERU Prestige. Atech always produce good cars so we will be looking to score some good points.”

The weekend begins with Free Practice on Friday with Qualifying at 2:25 on Saturday. Race 1 will get underway at 12:00 on Sunday.

Robert will appear with the Superleague Formula car during a demo at the Bavaria City Racing on the 21st of August to promote the ERU Prestige action.  See for more information.
